GTA 6 fans are currently in a state of constant anticipation. More than a year after the second trailer, a few days before pre-orders open, and with the November release just around the corner—the community checks Rockstar’s social media every day, hoping that this time will be different. The question “When will the third trailer come out?” has become the hottest topic among the entire fan base. Let’s go over what we know, what’s a logical guess, and what are purely fan theories.
What the Take-Two CEO Said
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick laid the groundwork for all the speculation during an investor call in early 2026. He said just enough to get the speculation machine running at full speed—the GTA 6 marketing campaign will begin in the summer. Not a word more, no specific date, no mention of a “trailer” or “video.” Just: in the summer.
But that single piece of information was enough for the fan community. If it’s summer, then logically it must be sometime in June, July, or August. And when Rockstar confirmed that pre-orders would begin on June 25—which is exactly the first day of summer according to the astronomical calendar—things started to fall into place.
Theory Number One: June 25, along with pre-orders
The most widespread and logical speculation is that Rockstar will release the third trailer on June 25, the same day pre-orders open. The logic is simple and convincing.
Zelnick did say that the marketing campaign would start before pre-orders begin. Pre-orders launch on June 25. Ergo—the marketing campaign, which will likely include a trailer, must be released no later than that day. And what could be more typical of Rockstar than to capture fans’ attention at the peak of their excitement, release a new trailer, and add “Pre-order now” right at the end?
On top of that, there was one more detail that fueled the speculation. After the pre-order announcement, eagle-eyed fans noticed new artwork on Rockstar’s official website that hadn’t been there before. Rockstar usually makes small changes like this as part of its gradual buildup to a major reveal.
Theory Number Two: The 177-Day Theory
This is a prime example of just how far the fan community can go in searching for patterns. Someone noticed that exactly 177 days passed between the third trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018 and the game’s release. And then they calculated that between the original (and ultimately canceled) release date for GTA 6 in May 2026 and the new date of November 19, 2026, there are—surprisingly—also exactly 177 days.
Is it a coincidence? Probably. But in a community that analyzes every frame and every word from Rockstar, this mathematical detail has garnered a lot of attention. The theory suggests that the third trailer might have been released on the original release date as a symbolic gesture to fans. The fact that this didn’t happen has largely put the theory to rest—but it shows just how creative the GTA community can be.
Theory Number Three: A 20-minute gameplay video
This speculation was sparked by popular GTA content creator DarkViperAU, who mentioned on his channel that he knows someone who told him the next trailer will be twenty minutes long and will essentially be a gameplay video. He posted this a few days before Rockstar announced the cover art and pre-orders—which lent some credence to his claims.
On the other hand, “I know a guy who said” isn’t exactly a solid basis for anything. And twenty minutes is a length that would be unprecedented for Rockstar. However, if this were confirmed, it would be a major step—both trailers released so far have been purely cinematic, without a single shot of actual gameplay. A gameplay video would literally blow the community away with excitement.
What should the third trailer show?
Fans are more or less in agreement about what they’d expect from the third trailer. The two previous trailers had a distinctly cinematic feel, focusing on the atmosphere of Vice City and the relationship between Lucia and Jason. Logically, Trailer 3 should show more of the actual gameplay—how driving and shooting work, and what free movement through the world looks like.
The community is also expecting a first look at the GTA Online component, as Rockstar hasn’t mentioned the multiplayer aspect at all so far. In addition, they’re hoping for more from the world of Leonida—new locations, supporting characters, and perhaps even a hint of just how extensive the game’s story will actually be.
What We Know for Sure
Amid all the speculation, one conclusion can be drawn with a fair amount of certainty—the third trailer is coming soon. Rockstar has exactly five months left until the game’s release and hasn’t published a single shot of actual gameplay yet. Standard marketing logic dictates that this vacuum can’t last long. And if Zelnick says “summer,” then the clock is ticking.
