One year. Two months. That is how long it has been since Trailer 2 dropped in May 2025 — and Trailer 3 is still nowhere to be seen. GTA 6 launches in 128 days and most players have yet to see a single second of actual gameplay. That is about to change. The community has locked in one specific date: August 7, 2026.
Why August 7?
Take-Two Interactive — Rockstar’s parent company — announced on July 9 that its Q1 FY2027 earnings call will take place on August 7 at 8:00 a.m. ET. That date immediately caught the community’s attention for several reasons.
1. An unusual Friday morning slot
Take-Two typically schedules earnings calls between Tuesday and Thursday, in the afternoon after markets close. This time they chose a Friday morning — 90 minutes before the market opens. Fans interpreted this immediately as a signal: companies avoid Friday announcements if they don’t have spectacular news, because hype gets buried over the weekend. If Take-Two is choosing a Friday morning, they either have very strong financial results — or they are preparing for a major announcement they want out before the weekend.
2. Historical pattern — GTA 5 and RDR2
Fans reconstructed the marketing history of previous Rockstar releases and found a consistent pattern: Trailer 3 for both GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 dropped approximately two weeks before the Q2 investors’ call. With the Q2 call on August 7, that would place Trailer 3 around July 24. Others argue the trailer could drop on the day of the call itself or shortly after.
3. Tom Henderson said “August”
Tom Henderson — the insider who correctly leaked GTA 6’s $79.99 price tag and release date before either was announced — responded to a fan tweet on June 25 with a single word: “August.” Henderson has a reliable track record of accurate GTA 6 information. That one word has kept the entire community on edge ever since.
4. The call will cover the first pre-order data
Q1 FY2027 covers April through June 30, 2026 — which means it captures the pre-order window that opened on June 25. That makes August 7 the first time Take-Two will publish official GTA 6 pre-order figures. If those numbers are record-breaking — and all indications suggest they are — it would be the ideal moment for a major announcement that boosts the stock price heading into the weekend.
What Will Trailer 3 Contain?
The bigger question is not when — but what. After two cinematic trailers, the community is unambiguous: it wants gameplay footage. Nobody has seen actual gameplay, the UI, the minimap, the shooting system, driving mechanics or a single mission in motion. Fans are split on two scenarios:
- Option A — Trailer 3 will be another cinematic (similar to Trailers 1 and 2) and a fourth trailer will deliver gameplay
- Option B — Trailer 3 will be the first gameplay trailer — a direct look at driving, shooting, missions and the world of Leonida in motion
Some fans are calling for Rockstar to skip Trailer 3 entirely and go straight to gameplay: “Skip trailer 3, go straight to gameplay trailer.” With GTA 6 launching in four months and nobody having seen a single frame of actual play, the frustration is understandable.
Why Has Rockstar Waited This Long?
The gap between Trailers 2 and 3 is historically unprecedented for a game launching in less than half a year. GTA 5 and RDR2 both had extensive gameplay material available at this stage before their releases. GTA 6 has two cinematic trailers, 63 official screenshots, and a story description.
The answer is probably a combination of two things. First — Rockstar is confident in sales. The game has record pre-orders without a single second of gameplay footage. Second — gameplay footage before launch invites scrutiny. The less you show, the less there is to criticise.
