The new cover art for GTA 6 was still hot off the press, and fans had already managed to dissect it down to the smallest detail—literally. This time, they noticed something that seemed inconspicuous at first glance, but once you see it, you can’t unsee it: the alligator on the game’s cover doesn’t have the right number of teeth.
Counted tooth by tooth
The whole thing started on Reddit, where one user pointed out that “something didn’t look right” about the animal on the cover. After a thorough count, he arrived at a total of 60 teeth. The problem is that real alligators usually have between 74 and 80 teeth, so the difference is significant enough for the entire community to notice.

Interestingly, alligators undergo a lifelong process of tooth replacement and can easily replace 2,000 to 3,000 teeth over the course of their lives. So, theoretically, this could be a younger individual, or simply one that’s going through a rough patch. The question remains, however, whether Rockstar really paid as much attention to detail on key marketing materials as one would expect.
The Internet is having fun, as always
Reactions weren’t long in coming. Some members of the community are taking it in stride and comparing the situation to other infamous launch mishaps in the gaming industry, while others are jokingly canceling their pre-orders. It’s the classic internet reaction to anything that falls short of perfection—over-the-top drama, but with a clear undertone that it’s all just for fun.
A hidden message, or just a simple mistake?
Of course, some fans can’t resist the temptation to look for hidden meanings behind everything. Theories have been floated that the number 60 might hint at something—perhaps a countdown to the next trailer, the number of collectible motorcycles in the game, or the opening cutscene. Realistically speaking, though, it’s most likely just a minor design detail that simply slipped through the cracks during the final review.
But that’s exactly what this GTA community is like—it dissects every pixel of official material with the enthusiasm of a detective on a major case. And even if it’s “just” the teeth of a reptilian character in the corner of an image, it proves one thing: the hype surrounding GTA 6 is so massive that fans don’t miss a single detail.
