Who is Lucia?

Lucia is one of the two playable characters in Grand Theft Auto VI and the first playable female protagonist in the main GTA series. We first saw her in the historic first trailer in December 2023 — in prison, in an orange jumpsuit, with a look that said it all. From that moment on, she became a symbol of the entire game.

Lucia comes from the Cuban-American community in Leonida. She is not a naive girl who fell in with the wrong crowd — she is a woman who consciously decided to play by her own rules in a world where the system was never on her side. After being released from prison, she teams up with Jason Duval, and together they begin to build their criminal empire across Leonida.

Rockstar has done something with Lucia that the series hasn’t seen before: they’ve given a female character the same space, the same depth, and the same moral complexity as any male protagonist. Lucia is not a rescue mission or a romantic interest — she is a lead protagonist.

Personality and Motivation

From the trailers and leaks, a picture emerges of a woman who is pragmatic, determined, and cool-headed under pressure. Lucia is not impulsive — she weighs every step. Her relationship with Jason is not built on romance, but on mutual dependence and a shared goal: to survive and get as much as possible.

At the same time, it seems that Lucia has a strong sense of loyalty to the people she chooses. Unlike many previous GTA protagonists who acted as lone wolves, Lucia builds relationships — albeit criminal ones — as the foundation of her identity.

Lucia in Trailers

Lucia dominates both GTA VI trailers released so far. In the first trailer (December 2023), we see her in prison, on the streets of Leonida, behind the wheel, and with a gun in her hand — always as the main subject of the shot, not as a sidekick. In the second trailer (June 2026), she is given more room for characterization: we see her during robberies, in personal moments with Jason, and in situations that suggest the complexity of her moral compass.
